Who am i
Education

Sriram Jayaraman, born on April 2nd, 1976 to Mr.Jayaraman & Mrs.Maithili Jayaraman in Vishnupuram situated on the banks of Kaveri. Started my schooling in Sri Matha Balar Patasala in Kumbakonam and further continued my studies in A.R.R. Matriculation Higher secondary School.

Came to Chennai in 1990, joined Vanavani Matriculation higher secondary school inside IIT campus. Finished my B.sc Maths from Madras University and did a course in Comp.Sci in Aptech Comp. Education.

Music

Started learning Mridangm under the Great Arupathi Sri.Natesa Iyer, in 1980. Still remember the days I used to walk from Sarangapani Sannadhi Street to Kamakshi Josiyer Street.

After his demise I joined Natchiar Koil Sri.Raghunathan and had my first concert (Arangetram) in 1987 in Janaranjani Sabha Kumbakonam.

It was in 1990, i had this great oppurtunity to join the Sruthi Laya Kendra School run by Mridangam Maestro Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani. Now Sriram, an amateur Mridangam player.

Work

Started my Professional career as a free-lance programmer in C & C++. My first big project (those days it was considered to be big) was BROWSE command simulation in C.

I was absorbed as a faculty in Aptech Adyar (where i did my course) started my life as a teacher in 1994. Uthyogam Purusha Lakshanam.

In 1999 March, I left from aptech and switched over to developement arena, and current working with the company Xerago an Integrated Marketing Services organization that helps corporations around the world with their Customer Acquisition, Retention.........

Yes, Mridangam playing is not just for "sogasu", but is also sokkajeyu Mridanga talamu ! Enthralling ! I say this with all pride having experienced a little of the immeasurable ocean of Laya & having befriended the divine instrument called the Mridangam. Nobody goes to concert to enjoy just sound however pleasing it may be. Creativity & aesthetic sense are a must for any music. A concert shouldprovide a mridangist a good opportunity to present his creativity & aesthetic sense. I have been saying for quite some time that to experience the magnificence of Layam, audience are yet to be educated. They cannot identify what is being played in a Thani as they identify a Raga or Krithi. The same Ragas or Krithis they have become familiar with for years are easily identified. As for the Laya section, theycan, at the most, say that the Mridangam had a good tonal quality, it was electrifying, vibrating, scintillating, etc. But they cannot realise the content. Only now Thani Avarthanam concerts are gaining ground. But it will take time to create a longing for a long Thani. The advocacy of short Thani is intended to keep the expectation of audience alive.

Palghat Mani Iyer, who had great regard for the art and the instrument, encompasses his art in his own words : "If the instrument was not handled for a day, the conscience would tell. If it was for two days, the instrument would tell and if it was for three days, the audience would tell.

Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani says, Aathula Noooru thadava vasichu paatha thaaan, stagela Oru Vaatiayavathu Ozunga varum. Ithu, What I say once, consider it said hundred times maathiri Kedayaathu...
